Crochet flutterby and a summer pinafore

pinafore and diaper cover

While pinning some cool photos in Pinterest, I saw this white top with a crochet butterfly applique at the back. It was a featured photo from zaxarik  a Russian website; no pattern was available. And even if there’s a pattern, it would be too big for a baby girl’s summer dress.

So, I made my own Flutterby. Working the applique is fun. With a mercerized cotton thread and a steel hook no.9, I played with pineapple lace motif for the wings, double crochet for the head and body, chain stitches for the antenna, and shell stitches for edging.

The hemline lace is also a combination of shell stitches and chain loops.

White Polka dots and hot pink always look cute on little girls. The final result is a Barbie-inspired summer outfit — a pinafore with a flutterby.
